The lodge offers four luxurious and spacious thatched-chalets with an open-plan living and entertainment area. Each accommodating two adults and the option of snooza’s (fold up mattresses) for younger children, all accommodating up to ten guests in total (additional children on request – terms apply).

The luxury, thatched chalets have been carefully designed and positioned to maximise the spectacular views of the Pilanesberg mountains and the surrounding wildlife.

The luxurious en-suite bathrooms leave little to be desired with his and hers basins, a double shower and beautiful stone bath. And, for those wanting to fully immerse themselves in nature, there is also an outdoor shower to be enjoyed, in tandem with the sights and sounds of the wild. Each chalet also offers a tea and coffee station, bar fridge and lockable safe.

The main entertainment area is spacious and consists of a fully-fitted modern kitchen with a fridge and freezer. Boasting an automatic coffee machine, microwave and ice machine in the kitchen area, you can enjoy all of the conveniences of home-living without having to compete with other guests for the use of these facilities.

An eight-seater dining room forms the heart of the dining area, while the casual lounge lends itself to kicking-back and channel flicking – so now you can go on safari and get the score in the same weekend! The formal lounge is an area where you can relax and read, or head to the bar area for a few drinks. There are both wine and beverage fridges available for you to utilize on a self-stock basis.

The boma and braai area joins onto a large thatched lapa which offers casual seating and a large dining table for alfresco dining. If you’re not up for the afternoon game drive, spend your time lounging around the pool with a good book, or take a stroll to the thatched viewing-hide a few meters away. The lodge is surrounded by an electrified fence to keep you safe from the Big 5 animals that are regularly spotted in the area.

Take to the crystal-clear, blue water of the pool after a game drive, before enjoying an evening of stargazing, sipping drinks around the fire, and listening to the sounds of the African bush at night.

While Thutlwa Safari Lodge is available exclusively – guests can rest assured that a member of staff is on the premises 24 hours a day. The lodge is serviced daily for our guests’ convenience

Note: There is cell-phone coverage at the lodge, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi in the main area.

The freedom that comes with booking an exclusive-use lodge means you get to enjoy the entire space without being concerned about other guests and how your holiday may impact them. By choosing Thutlwa Safari Lodge you get to choose your safari times and durations, as well as who accompanies you on your drive, with small children to join at parents’ discretion. If you’d prefer to stay at the lodge with your toddler or young child while others head out, the following items are available to you on request: High chair, baby monitor, plastic dishes and cutlery, sleeping cot.

Optimale ontspanning! Van 10-8 t/m 12-8-22 in deze private lodge met twee gezinnen enorm genoten van de natuur, accommodatie en gastvrijheid van Vicky en Deon. Alles was werkelijk perfect. Aanrader!

A luxury curated game experience Having the privacy of your own game lodge with luxurious rooms, while still having staff and wonderful guides around is a unique and unforgettable experience. The rooms are spacious and well maintained. Vickie, lodge manager, was amazing and met us after our drives with hot towels, had our fire built every day for a braai, or just a bonfire to sit at and watch the stars. Dian, game guide, has an obvious passion for the bush, and was as knowledgeable as any guide we've met. Most importantly though he worked hard to create an "experience" whether it's sunrise coffee or sunset drinks, timed perfectly for our family needs, he managed us expertly and we got some thrilling and special game viewing experiences. Will recommend to all friends and family going to Africa as an unforgettable way to see the bush... spoiled us for anything else in the future.

Outstanding tranquil bush experience from and incredible team What an exceptional bush experience. We chose Thutlwa for a family get away in the bush and were not disappointed. Vickie, Dian, Betty, Patricia, Mageso and Stephen provided such warm and comfortable hospitality and ensured we wanted for nothing. The family ranged from 11 to 80 and we were given the space, privacy and help to enjoy a tranquil home from home. The game drives were incredible. Dian is so knowledgeable and his passion for the whole environment comes through with fascinating information and stories about animals, birds, insects and plants. His skill, instinct, patience and luck resulted in us tracking and experiencing a cheetah and her 3 cubs in close proximity. We also enjoyed amazing elephant, rhino, buffalo and even honey badger sightings. And the sound of the dawn chorus of African birds was amazing. An unforgettable experience, I can’t wait to come back.

Could not be better This lodge, Vicky the manager, Dian the ranger and the whole lodge team are fantastic. The lodges are as good as the pictures and reviews show. Clean, well equipped with everything and more we needed for a self-catering stay. This was my first safari and I had no expectations of what it would be like. The game drives were hours long but felt really short, the landscape is stunning and there is such a variety of animals. We were lucky to see the Big Five which is not a given, however we would have been very happy without it as other animals are at least as interesting. Dian went above and beyond to make this an experience to remember. We saw different areas of the park, he followed leads to see lions and leopards as well as just taking time to observe the animals. He is very knowledgable. Vicky and the team that care for he lodges made sure we had every thing we needed, incuding lighting the fire, setting up the pool and even going as far as washing our dishes, which was a self-catering first and gave us a welcomed break from chores. The sleeping lodges and main lodges are big and there is a lot of outdoor space. The lodge has filtered water and enough wood for fire and charcoal for braai is available. You need to bring all the food and drink and there isn't anywhere close to buy either. It was really nice being away from shops for a few days. Binoculars are a must both for the gam drives as well as star gazing at night. We travelled with a 12 and 14 year old and everyone in our family enjoyed that stay.
Excellent / luxury with great value for Money : Fantastic Hosts Three days in paradise with great hosts. Luxury * 5-star accommodation. All facilities that you desire to make the bush visit very comfortable. Fully operational kitchen, Bar with enough ice and fridges. The Ranger is highly knowledgeable and client-focused. The Lodge is very safe, with staff available to assist when needed. Will definitely be returning
Fantastic lodge, great hosts, great game. Lovely lodge with excellent facilities and an incredible staff - it's a treat. The big five got a bit tedious but if you are a bird lover - good news eventually the rest of the vehicle will get bored of the never ending stream of big five things and stop sighing when you ask to stop for a bird. Some of them will even start to take an interest. The flora is also awesome (the Tamboti forests in particular). Apparently the geology is important - I thought it rocked. Fantastic lodge

Thutlwa My family and I spent an extended weekend at Thutlwa in Black Rhino. We had a wonderful break after the 6 month Covid lockdown. As regular game reserve visitors, we were not disappointed. Dian our ranger, and Vicky, the lodge manager, ensured that our safety and comfort were paramount. Our game viewing experience was excellent, topped by spending time with a family of 5 cheetah. We certainly will return.

We spoiled ourselves with a great stay at Thutlwa We had a great time. We were a familiy of 8 adults and 2 children and we enjoyed the stay tremendously. Dian and Vickie were amazing and were always at hand. The facilities are more than comfortable, with a luxurious feeling, and we enjoyed every minute of it. The lodge is well equipped with anything you could possibly need (and some more) for self catering, including some appliances you probably won't need. Not joking.. we could even bake muffins. We loved it and we'll make sure to recommend it to friends and family!
